About Me
Hi. My name is Rob Vonau and I’m a board certified veterinary surgeon living in Denver, CO. My story is I was born in New Orleans, LA and raised mainly in Slidell, LA and Lacombe, LA. I’m third child with three sisters. I moved to Aurora, CO during high school then went to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO for undergraduate course work. After three years of undergraduate course work, I applied to the veterinary school at Colorado State University and was accepted. I graduated with my DVM from CSU in 1995. I moved back to Denver and worked six months in a general practice in Littleton, CO then six months at an emergency practice in Englewood, CO. I applied for and was accepted into a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Colorado State University the next year. During that year, I applied for a residency in surgery and was accepted at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. I spent three years in Manhattan doing my surgery residency then moved back to Denver in 2000 and worked at the Colorado Veterinary Specialists, a specialty surgery practice in Littleton. I passed my board exams and became certified in 2002 as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. I worked in Littleton for 5 years before moving to Wheat Ridge Veterinary Specialists, working in the Westminster and Boulder regions, in 2005. After a year, I took a position as a staff surgeon at The Animal Medical Center in NYC where I had trained as a resident. I only survived a year in Manhattan before realizing I needed the mountain and moved back to Colorado and Wheat Ridge Veterinary Specialists. After 18 months, I left Wheat Ridge Veterinary Specialists to pursue a mobile surgery practice on my own which is where I am today.
My interests outside of being a veterinarian include snowboarding, running, mountain biking, hiking, and training for triathlons. I live with my beautiful fiancée Holly, who is a physician assistant in Denver. We are currently planning our wedding in May 2010. We live with two Italian Greyhounds, Gezzabelle and Giovanni, a three-legged Siamese cat named MRSA, and a ton of fish.
